IGP Cévennes

The vineyard of Cévennes is situated in the Languedoc region in the south of France. Its name comes from the highlands of Cévennes, the final foothills of the Massif Central. Longtime stronghold of Protestantism, you’ll find the largest Protestant churches of France at St Hippolyte du Fort and Anduze. Anduze is also known for the Bambouseraie (a private bamboo garden) and its polished vases.

Besides its rich cultural heritage, the territory abounds with cultural initiatives like a national circus hub at Alès, a documentary film festival at Lassalle, and the “TransMusicales” music festival in Sumène.

Primarily cultivated on limestone soil, the vineyards find themselves in a rolling landscape shaped by rivers with fearfully high water levels, where they stand alongside orchards, olive trees, and grains.

The red wines are characterized by their elegance, their aromatic strength, and their tannic structures that vary based on the wine-making technologies used.

Sunny days followed by cool nights boost the level of finesse in the white wines and the rosés are supported by a lovely fruitiness in the mouth.

The high-quality sparkling wines present fine and elegant bubbles, combined with either floral or fruity aromas, depending on the grape varieties used for the vintage.

The committed evolution of the composition of the vineyard for the past 40 years has permitted the wine-makers to diversify their products, notably with the introduction of more early-ripening grapes particularly well-suited to the climate of the Cévennes plains.

Vines also have their place in the agricultural economy and contribute to the reputation of Cévennes products, along with sweet onions, chestnuts, and Pélardon (a traditional type of goat cheese).

These products and the development of the tourism-based economy, notably around the National Park of Cévennes, contribute to the conservation of the landscape shaped by humans over the course of centuries.
