Appellation area
Protected at the north by the Chaine des Corbières and at the south by the steep foothills of the Pyrenees, the vineyard Maury represent a natural corridor covering 17 km in length and 4 km in width plus some plots on different villages : Saint-Paul de Fenouillet, Tautavel et Rasiguères.
Geology
This appellation is composed of black soil (Aptian schist, metamorphic and often decomposed).
Grapes
- The appellation area is composed of 90% of Black Grenache, instead of 75% imposed.
- Red and tile-red: Main grapes: Grenache noir, Grenache blanc, Grenache gris, Macabeu
- Auxiliary grapes: Carignan noir, Syrah
- White and amber: Grenaches gris and blanc, Macabeu, Tourbat, Muscat d’Alexandrie, Muscat à petits grains
Different products:
- White Maury, its production is very rare (400hl),
- Les Maury “Vendanges” ou “Récoltes”, bottled vey young with the aim of keeping the character of youth.
