AOC : Decree 4 February 2005
Twenty years ago, Saint-Chinian initiated steps leading to the independent identification of one of its best terroirs : Berlou. Success was achieved on 4 February 2005 when the INAO recognized it as a communal appellation. The area’s altitude varies from 150 to 400 metres, and it stretches over 250 hectares. The appellation vines are over ten years old and grow in schist soil facing due south. With quality wines with hints of roast coffee and silky tannins, Berlou is nowadays part of the AOC Languedoc family.
