Spanning a part of the Languedoc plain located between Béziers and the Aude department, the Coteaux d’Ensérune takes full advantage of their exceptional zone of production. Between the hill of Ensérune, whose summit bears the vestiges of an archeological site, and the Canal du Midi, an outstanding work classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the wine-growers of the Coteaux d’Ensérune are always dedicated to the protection of their territory. In the center of this zone, you’ll discover the first wine cellar in France—the Maraussan—inaugurated more than 100 years ago by Jean Jaurès. Regrouped today with others, it belongs to the largest co-op of wine cellars in France under the name of the “Vignerons du pays d’Ensérune” (Wine-growers of Ensérune country)!
The white wines of the Coteaux d’Ensérune present an aromatic assortment of ripe, white-fleshed fruit and of citrus. You’ll also find green, vegetal notes and a light, well-integrated acidity. The red wines are marked by an intense, pure red color with structured tannins. These red wines reveal aromas marked by red fruit and spices. Mineral notes make up these lively wines.
Each year, 25,000 hl are sold under the Coteaux d’Ensérune IGP, a significant proportion of wines bottled in the production zone are sent to Northern European countries through the support of the Foncalieu group and the Vignobles Bonfils (the Bonfils Wine-growers).
